      The Giving Book

A Currier and Ives Christmas
Is what I’m planning for –
The hearth and decorations,
The wreath upon the door.
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –  – – – – – – – – – –
But one came the other day.
It was the very best.
The Giving Book,
Had gifts – nothing like all the rest.
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Even children who have heart trouble,
To the U.S. they can fly,
To see the doctor – now all fixed up.
So they can live – not die.

    A New Year Resolution

As this New Year dawns before us
We will humbly pray
That we may trust in our Lord Jesus
Each and every day.

We don’t know what ill awaits us.
We don’t know what good.
But we will trust Him now and always
So we’ll do what we should.

             The Missionaries

The children marched from the schoolhouse
To the church across the street,
To see The Missionaries
Who were very kind, gentle, and sweet.
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
The man led them in the songs
While the woman played with grace,
The children sang and sang and sang
With smiles on every face.
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Everyone got very quiet
Because the prayer time came.
The power of the Lord just filled that place.
They prayed in Jesus’ Name.

He’s Already Taken Care of It

The problem may be difficult
As it looms along our way,
Or maybe not so hard
As we live each and every day.
– – – – – – – – – — – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
As His Son died on Calvary –
The Cross for you and me,
He’s already taken care of it
From sin to set us free.

New Book Ministers To Readers

NEW BOOK MINISTERS TO READERS

” . . . creative energy evidenced through every line . . .” – Dr. P.T. Mammen

San Jose, California – Do you want to read Christian poetry that actually rhymes, and prayerfully will help you “rally ’round – a little closer to Heaven?”

Charles B. Mayes, M.A., a community volunteer, including being a Director of Media Relations, has released his first book, A New Year Resolution and Other Poems (including The Missionaries), in a chapbook format, through his own Christian Poetry Publishing, with a release date of December 1, 2011.

Mayes’ goal is to inspire the reader to move closer to God. Twenty-two poems include Christmas, New Year’s,  and Easter verse, as well as plenty of devotional insight, and encouragement for Christian service. “My Bible Is My File Cabinet” is a humorous piece that reveals a “problem” of all too many.

The main aim is that the reader not only feels, but actually experiences God’s power in their life. It’s geared especially to Christians who need a boost in their walk with the Lord, and also to those seeking to learn more about the Christian life.

In his foreword, Dr. P.T. Mammen, Senior Pastor of International Christian Center San Jose, reveals that, “These poems evoke a sense of pure love for God, nature, and those around us. The reader is invited to enter into a unique thought process to appreciate everyday occurrences in life in perspective of time and eternity.”

Charles B. Mayes is a freelance writer living in San Jose, CA. He’s written for the Christian Standard, Northridger, CCC Caller, radio, TV, and websites. Mayes grew up in Muskogee, OK, and was graduated from Ozark Christian College Joplin, MO; California State University at Northridge; and Bethany University, Scotts Valley, CA, where he was also employed.
