Those Ones
2 Thessalonians 1:3
Who are Those Ones
Of which Mother used to speak?
Are they workers, neighbors, friends?
Are they persons we should seek?
Those Ones are folks
Who we like so much.
The ones who send us cards
Just to keep in touch.
They phone us and see,
When we’re very ill.
“How are you feeling?
Did you take your pills?”
They talk to us about the Lord,
Standing in the church parking lot.
We look into each others eyes
And know Who we got.
And when we move away,
Even close across the town,
They are there to tell us
We’ll be truly missed and “I’ll be around.”
And when for us they pray
We know that in their heart
They take time for us each day
So we can have a better start.
And when we sit with family,
After a loved one’s loss
They serve us even when ailing themselves
Disciples – taking up their cross.
When we meet in a small group,
Bringing refreshments in with us,
We’re there to serve the Lord
And also have sweet trust.
And teaching side-by-side
For years in the Sunday School
That all the children
In the class will obey the Golden Rule.
Those Ones are Christians
Who really live the part
Who act like Jesus,
From deep inside their heart.
Who are Those Ones
Mother used to speak of?
They’re the ones
We’ll meet someday in beautiful Heaven above.

Have you ever met “Those Ones”? They are not doing these good things because they want to earn their way to Heaven. This is impossible. We can only get to Heaven by God’s undeserved favor – His love to us. We can only get to Heaven by trusting in Jesus Christ’s death on the Cross to take our place for what we deserve. “Those Ones” do these good things because of what the love of Jesus has shown to them. Then, they want to show His love to others.
“We thank God for you always. And that’s what we should do, because you give us good reason to be thankful: Your faith is growing more and more. And the love that every one of you has for each other is also growing.” (Holy Bible – 2 Thessalonians 1:3 – ERV)
