Something Better with a Promise
(Based on Luke 10:39-42)
It’s like sitting at the feet of Jesus,
As people did long ago,
Hanging on His every Word,
The Master speaking calm and low.
It’s something better
Than anything offered by the world now,
As we keep in touch with Jesus,
At His feet we also bow.
Something better with a promise
Is what we really need,
As we practice it –
This is how we should proceed.
It’s reading God’s Word, the Bible
And hearing it preached, too.
It’s a Christian book, poem, radio station,
Or TV program to view.
We pray and tell Him what’s on our mind
Giving Him control.
Then He speaks His Word
Once again into our soul,
This is something better,
With a promise, too.
The guarantee is that His Word,
Won’t be taken away from you.

We know of the commandment with a promise, please see below.
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother — which is the first commandment with a promise — so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” {Holy Bible – Ephesians 6:1-3 – NIV]
The poem above the verse does not speak directly of a commandment, but this “something better”, which Mary sought, is “with a promise” also.
