Vanity Pressed

Vanity Pressed

Mark 8:36
I Peter 5:6

I hit the road a runnin’
And really thought I was great,
Until I met our Lord Jesus,
He quickly sealed my fate.

I own a large business
With workers quite a few.
I am the President
Of the Elks, Rotary, and Home Association, too.

I have a palatial house
And a driveway full of cars,
Plenty of important friends
Everything way above par.

But instead of thinkin’
What a success I’d be
And what I could do,
I finally caught the big picture of eternity.

Now my vanity pressed
Out of my soul
Because Jesus Christ
Has full control.

There’s a song that says, “Years I spent in vanity and pride,  . . .” It’s so easy to be proud of what we have and are doing, but we must be humble and wait for God’s strong hand to lift us up – all in His timing.

Look for Next Sunday

jesus.with.apostles.11 - The Lord's Supper

Look For Next Sunday
I Corinthians 11:23-26

Do you look for next Sunday
On your daily road,
A step at a time
Your burdens to unload?

As new days dawn,
Upon this Earth’s plain,
Some days good,
Some to your shame.

But when the morning’s bright
On the first day of the week,
You are glad when they say unto you,
“The Lord’s house seek.”

Then pass through the vestibule,
And into the Sanctuary every time,
You see the stained glass cross
And table with bread and fruit of the vine.

You commune with Him,
And with each other, too,
Remembering His death
And what He did for you.

Then look for next Sunday,
Partaking again,
As you consider once more –
His death, burial, and resurrection.

While there are many important parts of the worship/celebration service including preaching, the center of this service is Communion or the Lord’s Supper.  This is why we should look for next Sunday.

Uncooked Poetry

school.reading.03 - 3Molly

Uncooked Poetry

Molly sits on the bed
Not feeling very good.
She’s trying to read
Like every night she should.

Then Mother thinks of what could be the matter,
And then she knows what might.
“What have you been reading
Before bed tonight?”

“Just some poetry.
For me that’s very right!”

“No wonder you’re feeling ill,”
(As Mother examines the book carefully)
“This poetry’s uncooked.
Can’t you see?”

“There are no rhyming words
At the end of every other line,
And just because they’re fancy words
This doesn’t make healthy verse and fine.”

“You’re not feeling well yet,
But I have the answer, dear.
You need to read some edited rhyming verse
Which will make everything real clear.”

Then Molly felt all right that night,
As she took the plunge
Into fully cooked poetry,
She read all the poems one by one.

With this entry, I take a lighthearted jab at non-rhyming poetry. However, we can use many styles of poetry to get messages across that touch persons, sometimes very deeply.

Our USA Congress Prayer and Our American Prayer

icon033 - Praying Hands 5

Our USA Congress Prayer

We should pray for all in Congress
To know Jesus Christ as their friend.
To know Him personally from within.
To follow God’s Word, start to end.

Jesus Christ is their only Hope
For Salvation of their soul.
To live with God in Heaven
Should be their priority goal.

We need to pray for all of Congress
Who do not follow Him.
He is the only light they have.
Now their trust and Salvation needs to begin.

Our American Prayer

If we all follow Jesus in the USA,
Then our freedom will come back,
Just as it has been taken away.
Pray! . . . Pray! . . Pray!

We should pray for our USA Congress and for each other as citizens of this country.  Our only hope is Jesus Christ.

Remember Mike

boy-009c - Boy Silhouette 4

Remember Mike

In this crazy mixed up world of ours,
Someone jumps right out in my mind.
He came to Christ, but lost his way,
From Jesus’ path declined.

I still remember Mike,
But don’t know where he’s at.
How he played acoustic guitar
And wore that cool plaid driver cap.

After he left the Church for good,
A brother spoke this line:
“Remember Mike in your prayers,
That he’d come back to Christ and find.”

I’ve remembered Mike throughout the years.
I wish that him, back to Jesus, I’d see
Because I think he was oh so close
To finding eternity.

Wherever you are tonight
Before you turn out your light,
Pray for those who’ve wandered from the Light,
And please, oh please, Remember Mike!

There are persons who we meet along the way who have certain needs.  Maybe we don’t know them for a long time, but as much as possible, we must not forget them in prayer.  Just because they are out of our sight, they should not be out of our mind to God.
