April Fools’ Day

April Fools’ Day

Today is April Fools’ Day.
It’s a lot of fun
Until the shoe is on the other foot.
That is really bummed.

Speaking of shoes,
There’s always, “Your shoe’s untied.”
Or what about the fake spider?
Let’s run away and hide.

Even at the office,
Giving out bogus pink slips
Isn’t so funny when the perpetrator
Gets from his boss, lip.

From rubber snakes to
The arrow “through” the head,
Jokes from morning
Until time to go to bed.

And on the Internet,
You’d think we’d get a rest.
We get so tricked –
All that data – what a mess!

Today is April Fools’ Day
It’s a lot of fun
Until the shoe is on the other foot
That is really bummed.

What If You Met Yourself ?

fam0002 - Family - Black - No Backgroundfam0002 - Family - Black - No Background

What If  You Met Yourself ?

What if you met yourself
From years ago?
What is your Christian walk like now?
Did you spiritually grow?

Are you more
Into receiving His Word?
What about praying
To God undeterred?

Are you thankful
For what you have right now,
Before realizing what you miss
When later it might be disallowed?

Are you watching what you watch
On the Internet and TV?
Are you serving the Lord
With all your availability?

Are you cheerfully giving, as you’re able,
To those both here and abroad
Who tell others about Jesus –
Lovingly, the whole Word of God.

What if you met yourself
From years ago?
What is your Christian walk like now?
Did you spiritually grow?

Sometimes it’s good to reflect on our personal spiritual growth as a Christian.  We can never be perfect, but we can be complete in Christ.  As we grow in His grace we get close to Him, and that’s the best place to be!

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading (with Actions)

figce09 - Faith in God Changes Everything - Girl

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading (with Actions)

I dream I’m here.
I walk over the greenest grass,
And see the bluest sky.
It’s heaven. The streets like golden glass.

And with me and you –
A big smile on every face.
There’s no Sun or Moon
Because God lights up this place.

With lofty slides, swift swings, and bouncy trampolines,
The playground is triple fun
Where the playing keeps on –
I am never done.

Then I get to sit on Jesus’ lap.
He laughs with me.
(The Savior with the scarred hands and feet.)
Then I jump up and run. I feel so happy and free.

I could dream for along time.
Heaven’s there forever –
An eternity.
I would want to leave, never.

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading (with Actions)

I dream I’m here.
(Head on hands together, with head on top as if sleeping.)
I walk over the greenest grass,
And see the bluest sky.
(Walk in place and look around.)
It’s heaven. The streets like golden glass.

And with me and you –
A big smile on every face.
(Smile.)
There’s no Sun or Moon
Because God lights up this place.
(Hand up above head showing “the sun.”)

With lofty slides, swift swings, and bouncy trampolines,
(Jump up and down in place.)
The playground is triple fun
Where the playing keeps on
I am never done.
(Arms held out in front with hands flat.)

Then I get to sit on Jesus’ lap.
He laughs with me.
(Laugh with no noise.)
(The Savior with the scarred hands and feet.)
(Touch each palm and then gesture to feet.)
Then I jump up and run. I feel so happy and free.
(Jump up and down in place.)

I could dream for along time.
Heaven’s there forever
An eternity.
I would want to leave, never.
(One arm way up, with index finger up, as #1 gesture.)

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading (with Actions) © 2016 by Charles B. Mayes. All Rights Reserved.

Ascension Day is celebrated, in some churches, 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection honoring when He ascended to Heaven.  We know that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us and will come again!  [See John 14:1-4 and Acts 1:9-11 – Holy Bible.]

Production Notes:

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading (with Actions) is written to be used as a Choral Reading, but could also be a Readers’ Theater by dividing up the verses among the children and having them read different parts. It is meant for children in the Elementary grades.

A narrator could do the reading and the children could do the actions only.

Notice that the accented words (in bold) are to go right along with the actions. I put these here not only so that the actions would reflect the text, but also that the director would get away from any sing songy interpretation of the reading (i.e. a strong accent on the end of each line and/or the rhyming words) so the that the attention of the audience would be centered on the actual meaning.

These motions are only suggestions and the director has the freedom to change them. Some motions could be removed especially if the children are younger. The ideal would be to have one person leading the words; and another, sitting close by, leading the motions.

I hope that you will enjoy having your children perform this; or reading the poem itself!

Behind the Curtain

my_hope_01 - Hope in the Lord

Behind the Curtain
Hebrews 6:18-20

Jesus went behind the curtain,
(From top to bottom rent),
To the Holy of Holies,
For us His life was spent.

Jesus is our pioneer,
Dying and rising on this earth’s sod.
Now we are running
Toward our Hope in God!

We now can go through Jesus,
(To the open gates of Heaven, too),
To be in the very presence of God,
Our Hope – firm and true.

“Behind the Curtain” – that phrase touched me deeply recently. Jesus went there so we could have daily Hope in Him, and Hope of Heaven!

Don’t Forget the Vitals!

hope_of_glory_01 - Christ in Me

Don’t Forget the Vitals!                                                                         Colossians 1:27

When our doctor checks
For important signs of health,
He remembers those vital things,
To see our physical wealth.

What’s our weight, height,
Pulse, blood pressure,
Our oxygen, and temperature?
Several things to measure.

We also have vital signs
In our spiritual lives each day.
The healing Great Physician –
In His loving arms we stay.

Are we growing in the Lord?
Do we talk to Him and pray?
Is the fruit of the Holy Spirit
Evident in what we say?

Do we trust Jesus daily,
And rest in His deep love,
As He helps us keep spiritual
Through His Word from above?

Is there joy in our lives,
And a bunch of thanksgiving, too?
What about prayer for others,
As, in our minds, their needs run through?

We can’t forget the vitals,
No matter how much Bible we may know.
You see it’s those vitals
That makes the Christ life through us flow.

When the medical assistant takes and records our vitals signs the doctor must not forget to look at them when assessing our health.  If the doctor forgets, it might mean the difference between good and poor health.  We must also think of these vitals in our spiritual lives. How are we doing?

I really appreciate those who happen to visit this site and also my followers. Thank you and may God richly bless all of you!
