A New Year Resolution:

A Collection Through the Years

2012

God, Help Me This New Year

Help me to do Your holy will
Throughout this New Year.
Take away all my doubts
And all my fears.

Whether with great or no ability,
Make me available for Your use,
So that my service to You,
You may boost.

Help me to minister
Not to whom I think this year,
But to whom You want,
Both far and near.

Help me to have hope
That only You can give,
As from moment to moment
I, in You, live.

Help me to do Your holy will
Throughout this New Year.
Thank you for taking away all my doubts
And all my fears.

A New Year Resolution

As the New Year dawns before us
We will humble pray
That we may trust in our Lord Jesus
Each and every day.

We don’t know what ill awaits us.
We don’t know what good.
But we will trust Him now and always
So we’ll do what we should.

As we see the days unfolding
That God holds there one by one
We’ll trust Him more daily
And remember how He gave His Son.

So walking through the days
We’ll ponder our God helper in the past.
So during this New Year we won’t wander
But stay by Him to the last.

We don’t know our future, but we know who holds our future. We have seen Him help us in the past, and He will continue to help us in the future. Our part is being faithful to Him, as He is faithful to us.

As This New Year Approaches

As this New Year approaches
No resolutions do I make,
Except to remain close
To You, God, for Jesus’ sake.

To keep basking in Your grace
And when in sin I fall,
I get up soon upon Your path
To once more give You my all.

To know that I continue
To be in Your family,
Under the font of blood
Flowing from Calvary.

So I can have peace
Again this New Year,
As I still trust in You
And have no fear.

Are you still living in God’s grace as we go into this New Year? Remember – Holy Bible – I Peter 5: 6-7 – “So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you”. (The Message)

New Year

Life before us, each day very busy –
Working, helping with every opportunity,
Doing what we can to lend a hand
To loved ones and community.

Life before us, not knowing God’s timing
Daily His examples we must be
Since we know not tomorrow –
We cannot see.

Life before us, battles of all kinds –
Health, financial, satanic attacks, and more.
All of these things,
So life can never be for sure.

Life before us, only God knows –
Tomorrow, next year, or today,
Will we be ready to see God
When He guides us Home, far away?

We may have a lot of plans for 2015, but it is the Lord Who directs our steps [Proverbs 16:9 – Holy Bible]. On our journey, we need to stay as close as we can to our loving God, and do good because of what He was done for us.

Curtain Up!

Curtain Up on the stage of life!
This New Year’s drama starts
With you on the stage,
As the foot and spotlights
Both shine bright.

Not a lark.
You’re excited, yet fearful
In this program to embark.

All thespians ready to move
Through each scene
With dilemmas quite a few.
Plots thickens as characters careen.

You trust your Heavenly Director,
The Lord Jesus Christ.
Dealing with the lying antagonist.
Dealing with the sacrifice.

Whether showstopper or upstaged.
Whether dialog or soliloquy.
No bit parts here.
The finale is Heaven’s eternity.

Curtain Up on the stage of life!
A New Year – looking ahead.
With Christ, nothing to dread.

I usually write something here about my poems. The inspiration for this one comes from two persons. The first is my high school speech teacher, Joan [/Jo-ANN/] Murray-Hogan. She taught English, speech, broadcasting, and drama; and is currently active in productions. The second is Steve Dini, a TV personality, who has been teaching high school broadcasting and drama for many years.

The New Year Calendar

Jeremiah 29:11

Sitting there – the calendar on my laptop,
I look at the Old Year, past,
Filling in the New Year Calendar dates,
Leaving those memos that will last.

As I read the old entries,
Hard, and easy things, too –
Memories overflow my heart,
Both contented and blue.

Persons born, or now more in years,
Some have gone to the other side,
Most are still the same,
Some humble and some with pride.

Many blank areas ahead.
What will happen then?
I don’t know what things
Will be filled in them again.

I trust my God to replenish them,
As He guides me on the Way.
It’s not what I do,
But what He plans each day.

It’s hard to believe that another year is here! I prayerfully hope that each one of us, through the help of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, start (in some cases), or continue to be disciples of Him this year!

Greeting the New Year

Ephesians 6:12

This last year was kinda bad.
We had a lot of problems.
We look ahead to this New Year
To see God continuing to solve them.

There was the plumbing deluge,
Then Mom became ill last Winter.
They laid Dad off at the factory,
And then the broken printer.

The truck needed a new battery.
It was done before its years.
The radiator leaked like a sieve,
And our rent was in arrears.

The electric bill soared so high,
And now it’s the water heater.
U.S. politics didn’t go our way,
And food too scarce for eaters.

We know it’s really not these things,
But how to them we react.
Our struggle is not against flesh and blood.
It’s those spiritual forces who us attack.

It doesn’t depend on how we feel
Or even what we do.
It’s whole-souled trust in God above
That always gets us through.

Was 2016 a good year for you? Is every year a good year when we follow Jesus Christ? Is there such a thing as a bad day or are all days good in Jesus Christ?

The Old and New
2 Corinthians 5:17

The Old Year dwindles
As the sunset’s afterglow.
The New Year bursts forth
As the sunrise’s bright flow.

The Old Life vanishes
As a snuffed candle’s smoke.
The New Life in Christ appears
As a blazing candle uncloaked.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” [Holy Bible – 2 Corinthians 5:17- NIV]
