Lord, Help Me

Lord, Help Me

James 1:22

Lord, help me pay attention to You –
Not just say I pay attention.
Not only reading the Bible,
But studying and comprehension.

Lord, help me trust You –
Not just say I trust.
Not only following You,
But making faith a must.

Lord, help me obey You –
Not just say I obey.
Not only keeping close,
But on Your pathway stay.

Listening, Trusting, and Obeying God – not just Saying, but Doing!
Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22  [Holy Bible – NIV]

Anniversary 7 – Serving Heaven
By – Charles B. Mayes

IN 2008 SOME HARD CIRCUMSTANCES opened my eyes to my total dependence on God.  From this emerged my ministry of writing Christian poetry readings seriously and frequently.

“I do enjoy the poems and they do always point to Jesus.”  Anonymous

THROUGH THE YEARS as I’ve been on the website, I also distributed printed readings through churches and the LifeWay Christian Store community center.

“Love your poetry writing!  So complimentary in the common faith!”  Chanel B., DE.

I WANT TO THANK all my email and WordPress followers, LinkedIn readers, and visitors to my website for your continued support.

ALSO THANKS to my sisters, Nancy and Cherry, and Pastor P.T. Mammen for their encouragement from the beginning.  I appreciate the excellent editing of my wife, Dolores.  I thank my nephew, William, for helping greatly with the domain.

LORD WILLING,  I want to continue to minister through these poetry readings.

“You keep writing, I’ll keep reading!”  Steven C., San Jose, CA.

Where is the Rain?

Ezekiel 34:26

Where Is the Rain?

Seems for ages, we ask -
Where is the rain?
The drought is upon us,
Dry heat and parched pain.

When will rain come?
A long while, we've not seen any.
We look for blessings,
Spiritual heights, not many.

But we hold faith that God
Will soon quince our thirst,
Receiving Living Water
Through God's Word, burst.

Then we glance toward Heaven,
Seeing some mist in the sky.
Lifting up our heads.
Our blessings draw nigh.

The rain sprinkling at first.
Then vigorously heavy still.
The blessings just keep coming.
They are really real.

Where is the rain
As we wait, watch, and pray?
In His time, the blessings come again.
The blessings come to stay.

Sometimes we wait for blessings to flow from God and it just doesn’t happen on our timetable.  We must watch and pray and trust Him for these sustained blessings.

Banning the Bible

Banning the Bible
Assembly Bill 2943

Are you worrying about
(Many may warn you!)
Possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If someone wants to change
Their lifestyle, extremely,
Bible counselors couldn’t help
Through this scheme.

But we who have the Bible now,
What are we doing with it?
Are we reading it daily?
Do we to a schedule commit?

Are we studying and applying it?
Do we with others discuss?
Reading the Bible,
And letting it read us?

Are you worrying
(Many may warn you!)
About possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If our religious freedoms are taken away – when people can’t get Biblical counseling or choose a Biblical help book – everyone loses.  While this is bad, we must read our Bibles now, when we can, and seek the Lord’s direction.

That’s Perseverance

That’s Perseverance

2 Peter 1:5-7

Keeping on keeping on –
That’s perseverance.
Sticking to what we believe,
To our faith, adherence.

Asking God to propel
Problems away, clearance.
Moving them completely.
Hoping for disappearance.

Sometimes walking through
With a lot of interference.
Keeping on keeping on –
That’s perseverance.

Many times life isn’t so easy.  I remember once telling God, “It’s not easy being a Christian!”  I think that He knows this.  It’s not easy, but Jesus Christ is our friend and help going both before us in the wilderness and walking beside us.  We can persevere.

Hope Not Yet Seen

Do you have hope?  Today our guest writer addresses this important issue.

Hope Not Yet Seen

“For in this hope we were saved.  Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”  (Romans 8:24-25  RSV)

“Our Hope” before us, through the weeks and months ahead, is certain to bring things not yet recognized or understood.  Consider that our life each day is given new hope because God is faithful to us each new morning.

The God who is with us is the same God as yesterday, today,  and for all those tomorrows still ahead.  He doesn’t change, take naps or go on vacations.  Our constant hope is  reaching up to Him, persevering with prayer and the promise of His word.

God’s  hope, though not yet seen, is our constant expectation of an unseen reality.  Saved by grace by faith, waiting upon His promise through hope and perseverance, we’ll recognize the end result of our faith.

As a child, you might have been on a lengthy road trip to some special place, and you’d ask from the backseat of the car, “Are we there yet?”  Your parent may have responded, “Almost,” which usually meant another hour or two before you’d get to Grandma’s house.

Learning to be still and knowing God is working always in all ways can be difficult on our part, especially in our fast-paced culture of modern technology where everything’s at our fingertips for instant results.  But God is not part of our culture.  I thank Him because I tend to expect instant answers.

Experience has taught me that learning to wait upon His promise brings hope not yet seen with far greater promise.

Surprise Me, God!

Surprise Me, God!

Surprise Me, God!
With those wonderful things
You do which delight
Me through and through.

Not something I hear about,
Although that is inspiring,
But something I experience –
Your activity in my life thriving.

It may be someone
Coming closer to you
As you work via me
To cause them to see.

It may be a situation
That seems unsolvable,
But you open the door
To make it resolvable.

Thrill me with your works.
More and more and more let me see
Your powerful Hand touching
My world, actually.

Surprise Me, God!
With those wonderful things
You do which delight
Me through and through.
