Banning the Bible

Banning the Bible
Assembly Bill 2943

Are you worrying about
(Many may warn you!)
Possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If someone wants to change
Their lifestyle, extremely,
Bible counselors couldn’t help
Through this scheme.

But we who have the Bible now,
What are we doing with it?
Are we reading it daily?
Do we to a schedule commit?

Are we studying and applying it?
Do we with others discuss?
Reading the Bible,
And letting it read us?

Are you worrying
(Many may warn you!)
About possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If our religious freedoms are taken away – when people can’t get Biblical counseling or choose a Biblical help book – everyone loses.  While this is bad, we must read our Bibles now, when we can, and seek the Lord’s direction.

I Remember Mother

I Remember Mother

2 Timothy 2:15

I remember Mother
Sitting by our log cabin fire,
Telling Bible stories,
Our hearts glowing, inspired.

My dear sisters and I,
Hanging on every word.
Really listening to her
Not just sounds heard.

Naomi, with Ruth’s affection,
Of Elijah and Daniel, so brave,
Then of the risen Jesus
Who for us His life paid.

Teaching growth lessons
Very practical for each day,
And from our mother’s actions
Learning the wholesome way.

Ending our time, singing
About the mercies of the Lord.
Worshiping in those woods.
Our voices in one accord.

Falling asleep
Thinking of His love,
But also of Mother
And her firm faith in God above.

I remember Mother
Sitting by our log cabin fire,
Telling Bible stories,
Our hearts glowing, inspired.

I do remember Mother.  She told those Bible stories with great care as she wanted the best for her children by teaching them God’s Word.

Happy Mother’s Day!

That’s Perseverance

That’s Perseverance

2 Peter 1:5-7

Keeping on keeping on –
That’s perseverance.
Sticking to what we believe,
To our faith, adherence.

Asking God to propel
Problems away, clearance.
Moving them completely.
Hoping for disappearance.

Sometimes walking through
With a lot of interference.
Keeping on keeping on –
That’s perseverance.

Many times life isn’t so easy.  I remember once telling God, “It’s not easy being a Christian!”  I think that He knows this.  It’s not easy, but Jesus Christ is our friend and help going both before us in the wilderness and walking beside us.  We can persevere.

Hope Not Yet Seen

Do you have hope?  Today our guest writer addresses this important issue.

Hope Not Yet Seen

“For in this hope we were saved.  Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”  (Romans 8:24-25  RSV)

“Our Hope” before us, through the weeks and months ahead, is certain to bring things not yet recognized or understood.  Consider that our life each day is given new hope because God is faithful to us each new morning.

The God who is with us is the same God as yesterday, today,  and for all those tomorrows still ahead.  He doesn’t change, take naps or go on vacations.  Our constant hope is  reaching up to Him, persevering with prayer and the promise of His word.

God’s  hope, though not yet seen, is our constant expectation of an unseen reality.  Saved by grace by faith, waiting upon His promise through hope and perseverance, we’ll recognize the end result of our faith.

As a child, you might have been on a lengthy road trip to some special place, and you’d ask from the backseat of the car, “Are we there yet?”  Your parent may have responded, “Almost,” which usually meant another hour or two before you’d get to Grandma’s house.

Learning to be still and knowing God is working always in all ways can be difficult on our part, especially in our fast-paced culture of modern technology where everything’s at our fingertips for instant results.  But God is not part of our culture.  I thank Him because I tend to expect instant answers.

Experience has taught me that learning to wait upon His promise brings hope not yet seen with far greater promise.

So Many Prayers

So Many Prayers

There are so many prayers
That need to be said,
Sometimes overwhelming,
Swirling around in your head.

Who has God put on your heart
To pray for today?
It might be from your Prayer List
Or a thought coming quickly, thruway.

Maybe a fellow worker
Or a child that you know,
Or someone you just met,
God’s love you can show.

It could be a relative
Or a close friend.
It might be your student
Or your patient on the mend.

Pray from your soul,
Not simply a recitation,
Seeking God’s will
Whatever the situation.

There are so many prayers
That need to be said,
Sometimes overwhelming,
Swirling around in your head.

Sometimes we get confused about who we should pray for.  We don’t want to miss anyone on a list, but God may bring someone to mind that we feel led to pray for.  Prayer is a wonderful intimate communication with God!

God’s Purpose

God's Purpose
Eph. 1:11 and Phil. 2:13

Walking life's journey,
Striving toward His call,
Thinking we know God's purpose,
But may not really know it at all.

Could be countless closed doors
And struggles every day,
Or many opened, very easy,
But God's goal, can we say?

Helping someone
Is good within itself,
But maybe His unknown desire,
Though puzzling, is actually something else.

Speaking about Christ to one,
As another listens near,
The Holy Spirit leads -
It's the other ready to hear.

So, through our daily lives
Someone might be there
Who is blessed by our love of Jesus,
Whom we are unaware.

We don’t always know the purpose God has when we strive for our goal, but whether we know it or not, He will always achieve it when we are moldable clay in His hands.
