Lord, Help Me

Lord, Help Me

James 1:22

Lord, help me pay attention to You –
Not just say I pay attention.
Not only reading the Bible,
But studying and comprehension.

Lord, help me trust You –
Not just say I trust.
Not only following You,
But making faith a must.

Lord, help me obey You –
Not just say I obey.
Not only keeping close,
But on Your pathway stay.

Listening, Trusting, and Obeying God – not just Saying, but Doing!
Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22  [Holy Bible – NIV]

Banning the Bible

Banning the Bible
Assembly Bill 2943

Are you worrying about
(Many may warn you!)
Possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If someone wants to change
Their lifestyle, extremely,
Bible counselors couldn’t help
Through this scheme.

But we who have the Bible now,
What are we doing with it?
Are we reading it daily?
Do we to a schedule commit?

Are we studying and applying it?
Do we with others discuss?
Reading the Bible,
And letting it read us?

Are you worrying
(Many may warn you!)
About possible Bible banning
Out in California?

If our religious freedoms are taken away – when people can’t get Biblical counseling or choose a Biblical help book – everyone loses.  While this is bad, we must read our Bibles now, when we can, and seek the Lord’s direction.

On Tuesday I will elect . . .

election-day-04

This is my first time having a guest writer, but this is a timely and right on message!

On Tuesday I will elect…

On Tuesday I will elect…to get up before my kids do, fix a cup of coffee, and settle in for some quality time reading my Bible and praying.

On Tuesday I will elect… to cast my ballot with a calm centeredness, resting in the truth that God is my King.

On Tuesday I will elect…to look my family in the eye and, one by one, tell them why I love them.

On Tuesday I will elect…to pray for and shepherd this awesome flock God has placed before me.

On Tuesday I will elect…to refrain from negativity and cynical jokes. (This could be really tough.)

On Tuesday I will elect to…welcome the stranger, a small child, a hungry beggar. I will elect to look deep into their soul and remember that this day is not all about me, or what I want. I will look deep into their soul until I see the reflection of Jesus.

On Tuesday I will elect…to honor God with my speech.

On Tuesday I will elect…to love by being a good listener.

On Tuesday I will elect…to show respect towards people with differing opinions.

On Tuesday I will elect…to walk humbly, do justice, and love mercy.

On Tuesday I will elect…to not join the doomsdayers who wail and moan over election results. Instead, I will elect to read Psalm 46 reminding me “God is my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Therefore I will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea” and ‘my candidate’ does not ascend to office (verses 1-2). As our “nation is in an uproar” (verse 6), “The Lord Almighty is with [me]; the God of Jacob is [my] fortress” (verse 7).

This Tuesday, join me in electing to be the calmest and most uplifting of all people. On Tuesday, elect to bear the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal. 5:22-23)

On Tuesday may each of us end our day with a satisfied sigh, resting in the mercy-filled arms of the Great God who elected to love us.

Climbin’ Up the Mountain of Faith

Climbin’ Up the Mountain of Faith

Climbin’
Up the
Mountain of Faith,
Oh, glory to God!
Through His wonderful Holy Power.
Not through anything I could do.
Just always prayin’ to God every day,
And readin’, studying’, and notin’ His Word, too.
Trusting Jesus Christ that everything will be all right.
Resting in His Holy Spirit to lead to glorious Victory!

Thinking of Others

halo - stretching the truth a little

Thinking of Others

It’s good we think of others
As we go along life’s way,
To have zealous concern
For each one every day.

As we read our Bible
In the morning time or night,
We often think of others (not ourselves)
With scriptures, for them just right.

Not like those Pharisees
Or Teachers of the law:
Those hypocrites!!!
We’re not legalistic – like others – at all.

Then the unwise in Proverbs,
Glad we’re not like them,
But we can think of plenty of others
Who fit this picture – grim.

What about those lepers?
Weren’t all the ten healed,
And only one did think to thank Jesus?
Like the nine – others never appreciative feel.

It’s good we think of others
As we go along life’s way,
To have zealous concern
For each one every day.

I’ve noticed that when I read my Bible, many times, I don’t tend to apply these sayings to myself.  I really need to stop and look into the mirror of my own life to see what God is showing me.

Larry Pine wrote in his South Bay Concert News (March) referring to my Poetry Reading on February 6th, 2015, the following:

“The Christian poetry of Charles Mayes added a creative break to the Bethel Hymn Sing. Even poems with motions for Children’s programs . . . ”

Something Better with a Promise

bible2

Something Better with a Promise
(Based on Luke 10:39-42)

It’s like sitting at the feet of Jesus,
As people did long ago,
Hanging on His every Word,
The Master speaking calm and low.

It’s something better
Than anything offered by the world now,
As we keep in touch with Jesus,
At His feet we also bow.

Something better with a promise
Is what we really need,
As we practice it –
This is how we should proceed.

It’s reading God’s Word, the Bible
And hearing it preached, too.
It’s a Christian book, poem, radio station,
Or TV program to view.

We pray and tell Him what’s on our mind
Giving Him control.
Then He speaks His Word
Once again into our soul,

This is something better,
With a promise, too.
The guarantee is that His Word,
Won’t be taken away from you.

We know of the commandment with a promise, please see below.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother — which is the first commandment with a promise — so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” {Holy Bible – Ephesians 6:1-3 – NIV]

The poem above the verse does not speak directly of a commandment, but this “something better”, which Mary sought, is “with a promise” also.

Back To The Morning

Back To The Morning

When I lay my head down at night
I think back to the morning
In Love’s pure light.

To the time I read Your Word.
And I prayed for the day.
I know You’d heard.

Sitting by the window with light shining in,
Lift up my prayers
What a Way to begin.

Letting Your Word stir my heart,
Even though we
Might seem apart.

Then prayer for those near and far.                                        And a meditative heart
About those who’ve crossed the bar.

When I lay my head down for the final time,
It will then be there – Morning.
It will be sublime.

In the morning, it’s great to meet with the Lord through His Word and prayer, but as the day wears on, many times, we forget being in that quiet time.  As night is upon us, we can think and feel as we did in the morning, becoming close to the Lord again, and that is so wonderful!

Thank you for reading my blog.  I really appreciate your support.
