A New Year Resolution

A New Year Resolution

As the New Year dawns before us
We will humble pray
That we may trust in our Lord Jesus
Each and every day.

We don’t know what ill awaits us.
We don’t know what good.
But we will trust Him now and always
So we’ll do what we should.

As we see the days unfolding
That God holds there one by one
We’ll trust Him more daily
And remember how He gave His Son.

So walking through the days
We’ll ponder our God helper in the past.
So during this New Year we won’t wander
But stay by Him to the last.

We don’t know our future, but we know who holds our future.   We have seen Him help us in the past, and He will continue to help us in the future.  Our part is being
faithful to Him, as He is faithful to us.

Happy New Year!

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Photo Book

Mother pulls her photo book
From the bookshelf by the wall.
She views those dear ones,
Her whole family, all.

She sees her son, then three,
Riding his little car,
Now a lawyer,
Having just passed the bar.

Her daughter is shown,
From college graduated.
She’s working as a nurse,
One who’s highly rated.

There’s Dad in his suit
And Mother right there.
Arm in arm just before church,
What a cool pair!

Mother rubs these photos,
As if alive, seeing the children grow.
She’s glad she spent time with them
Though always on the go.

Time has gone so fast,
But God has taken care.
Memories flow like a river,
As her eyes, tears deliver.

Then, the doorbell rings,
As son and daughter stand,
“Happy Mother’s Day,” they say.
Another visit, oh so grand!

It’s fun to go back and look at old photos.  Sometimes we have so many that it is hard to organize them.  Seeing our family as they used to be is good in seeing how God has helped us.  But it’s best to look forward in faith to how God will guard us and bless us in the future.

I appreciate what Larry Pine wrote in his South Bay Concert News (March) referring to my Poetry Reading on February 6th, 2015, the following:

“The Christian poetry of Charles Mayes added a creative break to the Bethel Hymn Sing. Even poems with motions for Children’s programs . . . ”

Thank you for following my site.  Also, if you have stopped by for awhile I really appreciate it.  May God richly bless you!

New Year

Jesus Transfigured

                     New Year

Life before us, each day very busy –
Working, helping with every opportunity,
Doing what we can to lend a hand
To loved ones and community.

Life before us, not knowing God’s timing
Daily His examples we must be
Since we know not tomorrow –
We cannot see.

Life before us, battles of all kinds –
Health, financial, satanic attacks, and more.
All of these things,
So life can never be for sure.

Life before us, only God knows –
Tomorrow, next year, or today,
Will we be ready to see God
When He guides us Home, far away?

We may have a lot of plans for 2015, but it is the Lord Who directs our steps [Proverbs 16:9 – Holy Bible].  On our journey, we need to stay as close as we can to our loving God, and do good because of what He was done for us.

May all of you have a very Happy New Year!  I really appreciate my followers and others who have stopped by this site.  May God richly bless you!

I was happy to be able to distribute my new Christmas booklet:       A Kaleidoscope of Christmas (including The Eve of Christmas Eve and The Giving Book) through some area churches.

One of those congregations was Central Christian Church, San Jose, CA where Dr. Roger Edrington has ministered for 10 years as Senior Pastor.   He will be retiring at the end of this year.  I really appreciate him publishing several of my poems over the years. Thank You and Happy Retirement, Roger!

Right Where I Was

churchnegative

Right Where I Was

I didn’t go down
To that altar to pray.
I prayed in the pew,
But was touched
By God today.

He meets me
Right where I am,
Wanting, crying to
Be close to Him.

Feeling His power,
Feeling His love,
Feeling fellowship
From above

No, I didn’t go down
To that altar to pray,
But I felt His presence
In Church that day.

Sometimes we have an opportunity to go forward during a church service for the minister/pastor to prayer with us; and/or to share a public decision which we have made.  But we don’t always do this because there are things only between God and us.

I really appreciate all my readers!   Thank you for receiving my emails; reading my poems on LinkedIn; and stopping by this website.

An Answer To Prayer

PRAY

An Answer to Prayer

We pray about many things,
Some for us, some for others,
Seeking an answer to prayer
So we can have our druthers.

Sometimes we don’t receive
Our answer right away.
Sooner, might be the answer
To others as their stay.

Someone prays for a bike
And we have one to give.
Someone prays for food,
And we help them live.

Someone prays for a computer
And we know how to fix.
Someone prays for helping hands
And we have two to pitch.

For receiving an answer –
Blessed.
But being an answer –
Double blessed.

As an answer to prayer,
God through us to strive,
Making us spiritually
Very much, Alive.
(Acts 20:35)

A Prayer for America

flag

A Prayer for America

Dear God,

Thank You for our great country,
You’ve preserved throughout the years.
Birthed and sustained with blood
And with a great many tears.

Thank You for this country
Which You’ve blessed,
Times over and over,
Making us so prosperous.

We thank You for how
To other countries a help we’ve been
Looking to us in bad times:
Trouble, illness, poverty, just when.

We pray for our President and family,
Senators, Representatives, Judges, too.
Governors, Mayors, Councilmembers,
Just to name a few.

Looking toward You
May they seek Your wisdom,
Not their own,
In actions and decisions.

We pray that America turns
From our wrongs against You,
That You will forgive us
For all the wickedness we do.

We thank You for blessing America.
We praise Your Name above,
As You’ve granted goodness to America
Thank you for your love.

In Jesus name, Amen.

On this, our Independence Day, we take time to thank God for our country.  Also, as at no other time  in the history of our nation, it is time that we change and ask God for forgiveness for breaking His commandments; and then He will heal our land.  (See the Holy Bible  – 2 Chronicles 7:14.)  It’s time also for us to trust Christ as our personal Savior (if we haven’t); and then to bathe in His wonderful grace.

I welcome some new followers today!  I am so glad to have you, and all others reading these poems.

Praying Through

Against All Odds
Against All Odds

    Praying Through

Is the weather rough
On your life here?
Having trouble trusting?
Are you in fear?

Are the winds blowing
Hard on your soul,
So strong that you aren’t
Letting God have control?

When Peter was put in chains
The Church knew what to do.
They got together
And earnestly prayed through.

Then the chains fell
And Peter walked away free.
The Church was astonished
At what they did see.

Do the dark clouds overcast you
With not one answer found?
Then it’s time to pray through,
‘Twill make your life abound.
(Based on Acts 12:1-19)

Sometimes when we encounter tough times it is necessary to pray through those situations.  Tough times don’t last, only our tough God does.
