Old Fashioned American Thanksgiving Dinner

Old Fashioned American
Thanksgiving Dinner

Put the turkey on the table.
See it golden brown.
Then bring the mashed potatoes.
The best feast in town!

With heads bowed
Around the table, hush –
Now thank the Lord out loud
For what He’s given us.

Hot rolls, kept warm
Covered by the cloth.
Turnips, corn, and peas,
A wonderful eating thought.

Sweet potatoes
With marshmallows on the top.
All that food.
We couldn’t even stop.

Coffee, tea, milk,
Water, and soda pop.
Drink quickly down
Pretty much nonstop.

Pimento stuffed olives,
Gravy on potatoes and meat.
Plenty of pickles and cranberry sauce,
Complementing  replete.

All kinds of desserts
With mincemeat and pumpkin pie,
Whipped cream on top,
All that meets the eye.

Good conversation
Between every bite,
Catching up on things,
Giving each the spotlight.

All enjoyed,
Can tell this now.
This great Thanksgiving Dinner
Was a blessing, Wow!

We should always be thankful for the daily food that God gives us.  Many can have an old fashioned Thanksgiving Dinner.  Many cannot.  We should provide help for those who need help with food.

I am thankful for those who read my blog.  Have a wonderful reminder of this  Thanksgiving Day!

Are You A Thanks Giver?

Are You A Thanks Giver?

Are you a thanks giver
As you walk along your way?
Do you remember to really
Thank God when you pray?

Do you talk to God
Like the Friend He really is
Thanking God for what
He constantly daily gives?

Are you thankful
Only for earthly things,
Or also for things heavenly
Does your heart sing?

Do you thank Him
Through good and bad?
Do you keep thanking God
No matter how happy or sad?

Are you a thanks giver
As you walk along your way?
Do you remember to really
Thank God when you pray?

We can never thank God enough for what He was done for us.  We tend to thank Him for material things, but should also remember the spiritual things.  The first is that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Rescuer and Leader.  This is not only something that happens when we trust Him, but continues to happen now, and in the future.

I am thankful to God for all of you who follow my blog whether by email; web browsers; or Linkedin.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Caroling Tonight

Caroling Tonight

O Come All Ye Faithful,
Hearts so very bright,
Come on, children!
It’s caroling time tonight.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,
On every carolers’ face,
From ear to ear, they grin,
Now on their way with haste.

The First Noel,
The opening house sought,
It’s Mr. Wood,
Who at the school had taught!

The door opens,
He and his wife appear,
What Child Is This?
They excited, and up-geared.

Silent Night!  Holy Night,
The stars light up the sky,
They invite them in –
Some cookies and some pie.

Go Tell It On The Mountain,
And then a treat so right,
Miss Grace whistled bird calls,
They’d like to listen all night.

Spotting Mrs. Pat and elder mother,
The children softly start,
Away in a Manger,
They all knew it all by heart.

O Holy Night,
The minute they see her cry,
Weather crispy, clouds wispy,
The children get misty eyed.

Joy to the World,
They travel from house to house,
A big surprise when they sing,
Children, at first, quiet as a mouse.

We Three Kings,
Hum as they leave – all the bunch,
Detour back to church,
For delicious Christmas punch.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas,
Hearts so very bright,
Come on, children!
It’s caroling time tonight.

As we approach the Christmas season, we may be involved in, or remember Christmas caroling.  This could be the high point of the day or week in someone’s life – both caroler and listener.
