Anniversary 10 – Amen

By – Charles B. Mayes

IN 2008 SOME HARD CIRCUMSTANCES opened my eyes to my total dependence on God. From this emerged my ministry of writing Christian poetry readings seriously and frequently.

“I do enjoy the poems and they do always point to Jesus.” Anonymous

THROUGH THE YEARS as I’ve been on the website, I also distributed printed readings through individuals, churches, and the LifeWay Christian Store community center.

“Love your poetry writing! So complimentary in the common faith!” Chanel B., DE.

I WANT TO THANK all my email and WordPress followers, LinkedIn readers, and visitors to my website for your continued support.

“I’m sorry that it took me so long to thank you for your wonderful gift of poetry.
As I was reading your poem, [Independence Day] the images of the people celebrating Independence Day and being proud of this day came to me as if I was watching a nice short movie. I was very moved.” Daisuke (Luke) S., Mountain View, CA.

MY APPRECIATION also to Samuel Rondón Acevedo who has done an excellent job translating  some of my poems into Spanish.

“I just read ‘Mistaken Identity.’  It is very moving, and one of your best.”  Joan M.-H., Muskogee, OK.

ALSO THANKS to my sisters, Nancy and Cherry, and Pastor P.T. Mammen for their encouragement from the beginning.  I appreciate the excellent editing of my wife, Dolores.  I thank my nephew, William, for helping greatly with the domain.

“I really enjoy your poetry.  I will start sharing in my Sunday school classes.”  Travis B., Asbury, WV.

LORD WILLING, I want to continue to minister through these poetry readings.

“You keep writing, I’ll keep reading!” Steven C., Oregon.

God bless!

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading

I dream I’m here.
I walk over the greenest grass,
And see the bluest sky.
It’s heaven. The streets like golden glass.

And with me and you –
A big smile on every face.
There’s no Sun or Moon
Because God lights up this place.

With lofty slides, swift swings, and bouncy trampolines,
The playground is triple fun
Where the playing keeps on –
I am never done.

Then I get to sit on Jesus’ lap.
He laughs with me.
(The Savior with the scarred hands and feet.)
Then I jump up and run. I feel so happy and free.

I could dream for along time.
Heaven’s there forever –
An eternity.
I would want to leave, never.

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading  © 2020 by Charles B. Mayes. All Rights Reserved.

Ascension Day is celebrated, in some churches, 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection honoring when He ascended to Heaven.  We know that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us and will come again!  [See John 14:1-4 and Acts 1:9-11 – Holy Bible.]

Children Dream About Heaven: An Ascension Day Reading is written to be used as a Choral Reading, but could also be a Readers’ Theater by dividing up the verses among the children and having them read different parts. It is meant for children in the Elementary grades.

I hope that you will enjoy having your children perform this or read the poem itself!

There Is A Bridge (Hay un puente)

bridges-03There Is A Bridge

Suspended over unfathomed depths,
There is a bridge, not very wide,
But people decide to traverse it daily,
Eyes drawn to the other side.

Some won’t travel this lean span,
But choose a different wider way,
“Plenty of room and safety
To get me across,” they say.

While others know that
This is the only way to go,
Across this stained wood,
Safely from the abyss below.

Of wood and nails,
This bridge was cheaply made,
But with toil and love
A big price once was paid.

You see this Bridge spans
The gap between mankind and God,
And has supported people
Who, one way, from past to now, have trod.

Salvation comes by the Bridge,
Laid down by Christ before,
As He gave His life on the Cross,
So many could cross o’er.

The Bridge between mankind and God is the Cross of Jesus Christ.  Jesus Himself said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  (John 14:6 – NIV – Holy Bible)

ChristianPoetryPublishing.com – ”As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ ” (Holy Bible – Acts 17:28)

De que este es el camino para ir asegurados;

Easter Is Near

Easter Is Near

Easter is upon us
And is near.

Look not to the Cross
For our Savior is not there,
But remember its symbol
For us He did care.

Look not to the grave
Where He was placed.
For He has risen
To share His grace.

When God Brings You Out

When God Brings You Out

Philippians 3:13-14

When God brings you out
No looking back.
Thank Him continuously
So no setbacks.

Remember the pillar,
The wife of Lot?
Not resisting glancing behind.
She turned to salt.

Joseph put in the pit
By his brothers, all.
Forgave them later.
No downfall.

Jonah in the big fish,
Swallowed up.
Thankful to get out.
Frightful and rough.

Jesus says, “It is finished,”
On the cross, no wavier.
He in the tomb, then rose.
Thank God, our Savior!

When God brings you out
No looking back.
Thank Him continuously
So no setbacks.

When we have come out of bad situations, even years ago, we must not dwell on these things now in our mind, but continue to thank God for bringing us out, and move forward.  We see this in many Bible examples.

Behind the Curtain / Detrás de la cortina

my_hope_01 - Hope in the Lord

Behind the Curtain
Hebrews 6:18-20

Jesus went behind the curtain,
(From top to bottom rent),
To the Holy of Holies,
For us His life was spent.

Jesus is our pioneer,
Dying and rising on this earth’s sod.
Now we are running
Toward our Hope in God!

We now can go through Jesus,
(To the open gates of Heaven, too),
To be in the very presence of God,
Our Hope – firm and true.

“Behind the Curtain” – that phrase touched me deeply recently. Jesus went there so we could have daily Hope in Him, and Hope of Heaven!

ChristianPoetryPublishing.com – ”As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ ” (Holy Bible – Acts 17:28)

Detrás de la cortina
Hebreos 6:18-20

Jesús fue detrás de la cortina
(desde lo más alto descendió)
y con su muerte, ante el Santísimo
su vida por nosotros entregó.

Jesús es nuestro gran precursor,
con su muerte nos otorgó redención
y con ella nos ha permitido obtener
esperanza y para con Dios una relación.

Ahora podemos andar mediante Jesús
(abrir las puertas divinas con alabanza)
para estar bajo la presencia de Dios,
gracias a nuestra sólida esperanza.

Reflecting

Reflecting

Reflecting in your mind.
Reflecting back through time.
Turn the Bible pages,
You will see
Encouraging stories from history.

Baby Moses floating in the reeds.
Sister Miriam taking heed.
Pharaoh’s daughter,
A surprise –
Asking Moses’ own mother, who raised him wise.

David playing on his harp
Watching his sheep – day and dark.
Keeping the flock
From harm to start.
Beautiful songs from his heart.

The Zarephath widow wondering what she should do.
She and her son almost through.
Elijah made a promise.
It came true.
Enough flour and oil, more than made do.

Ruth and Boaz, what a pair.
Kindness to her with grain to spare.
Marrying Ruth.
Delight in the air.
Oh, the precious love they did share.

On Easter morning from the grave He rose.
Happy were the women, and the men He chose.
Glory to our God,
Singing, praising, shouting –
Joy in the highest, beyond all doubting.

The Gentiles were glad to hear the news
When Paul and Barnabas by God were used.
Light to the nations,
Salvation came
To the ends of the Earth in Jesus’ name.

Reflecting in your mind.
Reflecting back through time.
Turn the Bible pages,
You will see
Encouraging stories from history.

Walking on the Emmaus Road

When I was growing up, we had a beautiful picture hanging in our home called “The Road to Emmaus.”  As I grew older, I loved to look at that picture and imagine what it would like to be on that Road joining the men and Jesus.  What a wonderful experience that would be and is!

Walking on the Emmaus Road
(Luke 24:13-35)

I yearn to walk on the Emmaus Road
Again this Easter time.
I want to be with the two;
and Jesus – so sublime.

To first hear the Master’s voice,
So calming and so clear,
To tell Him all of our concerns,
To tell Him all our fears.

As we walk He tells us more:
(Revealed today in the Bible pages)
Of His great and wondrous plan,
Throughout all the countless ages.

Then the setting sun,
As we get almost there,
“Stay with us,” we say
To Jesus so wonderful and fair.

He tells us “yes.”
And then at the table we recline,
To eat some bread
Which was by His design.

Then our eyes are opened
To Who He really is –
Our marvelous Savior
Who has mightily ris’n.

He disappears and then we talk,
Of how our hearts did burn,
Within us while we walked along,
At each and every turn.

I yearn to walk on the Emmaus Road
Again this Easter time – praise give!
Because only on that Road
Will I grow, and will I live.
